Sure, you can probably sing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, but how much do you really know about stars?
What is a Star Made of?
Great question! Stars are actually giant balls of really really hot gas! Just like the sun. Did you know that the sun is a star? It’s true!
How Do Stars Twinkle?
Another great question! However you may not be ready for the answer: stars actually DON’T twinkle.
Yep. Sorry to break your heart. Luckily there is a really cool answer for why this is. Stars are really really far away and in order to see them we must look from earth through many layers of the earth’s atmosphere (the area in the sky around the earth). These layers of atmosphere are kind of moving all the time, and they have different temperatures and for these reasons the light from a star (which again is super duper far away) kind of bends and bounces as it travels through the atmosphere and this makes it look like the star is ‘twinkling’.
Learning About the Science of Stars!
We actually explain the science of a star with our Twinkle Twinkle Little Star Video! It is actually the traditional Nursery Rhyme combined with a lesson that teaches about stars!
