Fun in the Sun – Science Videos for Kids

Kids are curious about all sorts of weird and wonderful things – one of them being our sun. In our sun video for kids, we explain the top three reasons the sun is important, like really important, like life or death important.

It’s time to have some fun in the sun and learn something new along the way! Ready?

What is the sun?

Alright, before we get into the nuts and bolts of the sun in our science videos for kids, we need to answer the all-important question: what is the sun?

And no, that hot thing in the sky isn’t a good enough answer.

The sun is a giant star in the center of our solar system

The sun is the star at the centre of our solar system. In other words, it’s a massive (about one million Earths could fit inside the sun) burning hot ball of plasma floating in space. All of the planets in our solar system orbit the sun.

What’s so great about the sun?

The sun is to us what water is to a fish, what cheese is to a pizza, what rain is to a rainbow – absolutely vital. Life as we know it couldn’t exist without the brilliant sun. We’ll show you why in our preschool science videos.

The sun gives us light, heat and food

Here are three reasons we depend on the sun.

1. The sun gives us light

Picture the world without light. Picture the world in eternal night. Darkness at every hour of every day. Pretty disturbing, huh?

Without the sun, we would live in complete darkness

Light helps us see. Light helps plants grow. Light shows us the world in all its colourful glory. See what the world would look like without light in our fun science video for kids.

2. The sun gives us heat

Now imagine the world without heat. Imagine if it was winter seven days a week, 52 weeks a year. Forget the beach. Forget the pool. Forget going outside!

Without the sun, it would be freezing.

Heat keeps us warm. Heat keeps the plants and animals alive and happy. Check out what an icy cold, sunless planet would look like in our sun video for kids.

3. The sun gives us food

You know when you are absolutely ravenous, so hungry you could eat an entire house? Well, that’s what it would be like all the time without the sun. No breakfast. No lunch. No dinner. And forget dessert – those days are over.

Without the sun, every human and every animal would starve.

Food keeps us strong and healthy. It gives us the energy we need to learn, work and play.
